OMG, Karz is back, ladies and gentlemen

Karz FilmI guess after a while, the sheer stupidity of it all wears off on your senses. You decide to de-sensitise yourself to the mindless inanity that’s been churned in the greater good of Indian cinema. And these days, the Great and Mighty production houses have taken it upon themselves that what, us, the Indian Movie fans, want to watch is remakes of the ones which are produced (never mind the fact that they are the intellectual creations of Masters who were good story-tellers and better businessmen with their products) and entertain us till we leave the theaters, bleary eyed and content. Remake, remix – does anybody care? And the technicality of one still bugs me.

You see , Mehebooba, the hip-shaker was re-recorded ( for want of a better word ) by Ganesh Hegde for Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag , with portions of the original vocals and new elements (sigh) and made into an unrecognisable composition over which every other RJ has been screaming hoarse these days (maybe they are paid to do so, maybe that’s their job). And another composition by Lord Himesh, faithful to the original with Ashaji completing the duet, complete with the Lord’s nasal signature. So does that become a remix and the latter a remix’s remix?

Back to Karz. Satish Kaushik has taken the onus upon himself to recreate the Rishi Kapoor – Simi Garewal original in a place far, far away from Ooty (Europe, where else?) and have mercifully agreed in the greater interests of tolerance and creative magnanimity, that he is going to stick to spirit of Mr.Ghai’s film as much as possible. Thank you, Mr.Satish Kaushik, thank you (what else can one say?). Himesh Reshamiya is slated to play the rock star re-incarnate (they never get tired of this, do they?) and is currently on the hunt for an actress to portray the one by Simi Garewal.

Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim & Simi Garewal live it up with Ek Haseena Thi.

Funnily enough, the title rights of the movie are with Manoj Kumar (Mr.Bharath) and it may please be noted that none of the original foot-tappers, including the Om Shanti Om will be remixed in this Europe saga.

It is going to be a completely new set of tracks created by Himesh Reshamiya that made Satish Kaushik take up the project in the first place, (dear Lord!). So it comes to pass that we are going to be subjected to one more movie in a bright new package, after Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag, as another ‘tribute’ to the old classics.

Methinks they had a reason to put ‘Original’ before ‘Remix’ in the English Lexicon.

Enough said.
